Is your OXO Brew 8-cup Coffee Maker driving you nuts? It's not your fault. The descaling process in the manual often fails to clear the light.
If your coffee maker has significant build-up, it might need more than one rinsing cycle to register as clean. The following steps walk you through the process explicitly so that you don't need to wrestle with OXO's instructions.
Prerequisites
- Your coffee maker’s cleaning light is on.
- You prepared an OXO-recommended descaling solution.
- For a solid descaler, combine it with warm water outside of your coffee maker's reservoir. Stir the mixture until all solid particles disappear.
- For a liquid descaler, consult the instructions. Some can be mixed with water inside of the reservoir.
Procedure
- Fill the coffee maker's reservoir with your descaling solution.
- Turn on the coffee maker.
- Press the CLEAN button.
- Wait for the cycle to finish and then empty the carafe.
- Repeat these steps until the cleaning light turns off:
- Fill the reservoir with cold water.
- Press the CLEAN button.
- Wait for the cycle to finish and then empty the carafe.
- Fill the reservoir with cold water.
- Press the 5-8 CUPS button.
- Wait for the cycle to finish and then empty the carafe.
You are now ready to make some coffee.
About
A real human wrote this page! I'm a technical writer with an otherwise lovely OXO coffee maker. I was annoyed by the cleaning cycle UX, so I wrote this up.
Happy cleaning.
